Langley Speedway, August 29, 1965

Gonna go the lazy man's route this time even though I see that the photo I used for the August 22 post is the one they used, which puts a date on the Ray Hurren wreck. (Or does it?) I'll just put up the Racing Wheels scan from Jim Thurman about the race and try to be better organized next week (the neverending dream).

Interesting to see the names Doug Firth, Lloyd Bellamy and John Rothwell in the jalopy class.

Both Firth and Bellamy would go on to the modified stock class in the following years, Bellamy, better known as "Charlie Brown", and Firth running a Model T bodied car.

And John Rothwell would win the super stock title three years running from 1967 through 1969 and be a top notch contender whenever he showed up at the track.

Ralph Monhay was at Edmonton that weekend for the CAMRA race (a series that needs to be looked at in depth). Believe he finished third at the Gold Cup that year. Jim Malloy of Denver won.

But Ralph being out of town was allowing Wayne Wilbey to close in on points.

Dennis Goldstraw had a sweep in the B modified class.

And great to see Frank McCabe get the main in the stock class.
