the rock and roll shows, 1957

At least two big package tours of rock and rollers came through town in 1957. Now they might have been like the jazz package tours of the same year, a bit problematic what with advertised stars cancelling and whatnot. But the lineups for the shows are amazing.

Red Robinson, 1957

Seeing how I'm stuck in 1957 right now here's a couple ads for deejay Red Robinson. He made the big move to CKWX spinning discs in the after school and late night hours.

i never know what i'm looking for until..., part three

Now here's one find I wasn't looking for and am glad I found: Penny Wise (was that her real name) writing a story in 1971 about her trip to Memphis, at her editor's request, to interview Elvis. And damned if I didn't find the 1956 front page stories she did from that trip.

1956 was all about....

Two seemingly unrelated items. And, really, they are, but they come from the 1956 Chilliwack Progress. An ad for the BCCCA Motorama in Vancouver and a report on scandalous behaviour during a showing of Rock Around the Clock.

Hot rods and rock and roll. Hmmm, pretty related in my way of thinkin'.
