Can't Catch Me (Langley Speedway) exhibit
I posted the poster for this exhibit last week. Here are some photos of what you can see.
The exhibit lasts until August 9th at the Centennial Museum in Fort Langley (9135 King St, Fort Langley) just a couple blocks east of Glover. It's by the Farm Machinery Museum and a block short of the old Fort itself.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Sunday. Admission is by donation.
Lots to see and eat in the area. A good place for an afternoon visit.

Langley Speedway reunion
The 2014 Langley Speedway reunion saw a pretty good crowd. A good collection of former Langley drivers and people associated with the track.
And the weather was warm.

7th annual Langley Speedway Reunion, September 8, 2013
Racecars! Show cars! Historical displays! Old drivers! Young guns! Music! Prizes!
7th Annual Langley Speedway Reunion and Car Show – south end 208th St. Langley - mark Sunday September 8th on your calendar.
Arrive prior to 10am to witness the event opening from the grandstand hill – it should me an impressive site – if you have a video camera make sure you bring it.
The event commences at 10:00am with the call “Drivers – Start – Your – Engines!”
Mr. Langley Speedway will then wave his green flag and the inaugural “Victory Lap Parade” will begin to roll out.
In a salute to the fans, all display cars will take 1 parade lap behind the official pace car around the oval on the way to their pit stalls. Once parked and when safe to do so, in the long-standing tradition of racing, all visitors will then be invited to join them in the pits to begin the celebration.
We invite all show car and race car owners to be a fun part of track history – bring out your gear, show us your stuff - no pre-registration - no charge. If you want to be part of the “Victory Lap Parade” just arrive prior to 10 – if not, join us up till 4pm.
All participating racecars will be entered in a draw for prizes including an official driver’s suit and a Hans device.
All show cars on display that day will receive a free ticket for chances at their own prize pool of auto related accessories.
Talk about an affordable family opportunity - cotton candy, hot-dogs and water by donation – proceeds to go to the Historical Society. In addition there will be coffee, cold drinks and mini-donuts available at a reasonable cost.
The first 500 fans to arrive will also receive a free ticket for a chance at door prizes.
At 11:00 and 2:30 we are in for a special treat with the appearance on stage of “Elvis Within” – Jack Overbury is a local Elvis tribute artist who is a past winner at the prestigious Penticton Elvis competition. When not on stage he will be walking around the show area just waiting for people to ask him to pose for a photo.
It is our goal to honour the past while dreaming-n-scheming about the future of oval racing. We hope you are able to join us – bring your family, bring your friends, bring a lawn chair and a picnic lunch – plan to spend the day with old friends and great memories.
Don’t forget your sunscreen.

when in doubt, link
A couple facebook pages.
The first for CAMRA. A new one so you can get in on the ground floor, so to speak.

The second for the Langley Speedway Historical Society. It's pretty active with pictures, articles and film.

Langley Speedway Reunion, 2010
Friday, December 4, 2009
got an email from Harry Roberts
Harry Roberts emailed a couple notes to me yesterday. They can be found in the comments here. Points out a spelling mistake the newspapers of the day made and I continued to make.
So I'm trying to make corrections and apologies here. Working with what I've got to the best of my ability. (Of course, that might only make me dead last in the consi.)
So changes made here and here to correct the name. And a couple photos of Harry and his early-late from 1967 from the BCTRA yearbook. I know I've seen photos the modified he drove a few years later at the Langley Speedway Historical Society displays but can't seem to find a photo of it in my files.

when in doubt, have a reunion
Some links to a couple (three) reunions coming up:
Langley Speedway Reunion, September 13th at the old track south, south end of 208th Street in Langley.
The 6th Annual Arlington Drag Strip Reunion, September 12th at the Arlington Airport, WA.
Some photos from the first Arlington reunion, 6 pages worth in fact!
And, of course, the Greater Vancouver Motorsport Pioneers Society is having their ceremony October 18th.

congratulations to the Langley Speedway Historical Society

Last summer the Langley Speedway Historical Society took possession of the former B modified of Jack Cross. It had been at the Victoria Auto Racing Hall of Fame.
On the weekend of April 25/26 at the BC Classic & Custom Car Show at the Tradex in Abbotsford the car took the "Best Race Car Open Wheel" trophy, the first trophy it has won off the track.
While the car was never all that lovely the new Langley Speedway Historical Society trophy girl sure is!
