Jack Williams, RIP
Sad to learn that BC drag racer Jack Williams has passed away. He put in close to 75 years into the motorsport community here.

some 1962 Arlington Airport reports
Found online. Wish there was more. Maybe there is but I'm relying on search engines for the moment. Lazy man research.... :-)
Good to see mention of Jack Williams' Syndicate dragster.
Oh yeah, happy new year!

Some drag racing stuff
Better keep this thing going. Got a comment concerning Jack Williams and his new museum out in Aldergrove. I posted it there but that's three year old, so I'll redo the comment here:
I was driving East down the old Trans-Canada Hwy known as Fraser Hwy in Surrey,Langley,Aldergrove and Abbotsford this Thanksgiving monday Oct.10,2011 and had just crossed the 264 street road crossing in Aldergrove when,I was hit with a glimps of pleasure from the past. i said no it can't be but I have to check it out.
You see I was positive I had just notice a sign in the powing rain that read Syndicate Scuderia Museum and through the window I thought I saw a Sling Shot Dragster.
I said to myself I got to turn around and check this out.
Next light I made a U-Turn and as I was driving back I noticed an old man driving a three wheel electric scooter like the elderly have down the sidewalk in the pouring rain with no Jacket on and I thought he can't be going far dressed like that.
I passed by and turned into the place where I could clearly see the sign Syndicate Scuderia and I remembered that name from where I and my brother inlaw had gotten Machine work done and also from Top running race cars that ran at mission Raceways with that name on the door. The shop was in Burnaby on Kingsway and I had the name of jack Williamson come to mind.
As I sat there in wonderment in my vehicle I could see a 1970 Cuda and some other cars in the show room. I thought I will be back to check this out and wondered if Jack was still alive as I started to back up and was checking my mirrors I noticed the old man in the electric 3 wheel scooter go by heading to a big gate that I had not noticed was open.
He pulled up to the door got his keys out and I drove closer and shut my Truck off and asked if he was Jack and he said he was and to come in.
Well I had this incredible feeling of joy to run into someone I had not seen for I guess over thirty years since I gave up Racing for a young Family and always intended to get back to it.
Any way Jack Williams is still going and alive at 80 years or more and I am planning to stop in for another visit and who knows maybe I might go Racing again.

Thanks Jack for taking me for a walk down through History today and a great conversation with all the knowledge you have.
I will be back.
I've heard about Jack's new spot. Will have to get out there and take a few photos.
A couple Mission reports from way back in 1965.

so did Jack make it to Edmonton?
Came across this photo on the H.A.M.B. forum (and that stands for "hokey ass message board") featuring Jack Williams and his Syndicate Scuderia A/D on the cover of a newspaper from Alberta. Says he was to appear in Edmonton. I wonder if he did. (No doubt if he said he would he did.)
And I should add a link to the H.A.M.B. forum here and up over at the links column. Mostly hot rods, and that ain't a bad thing.

Jack Williams, Syndicate Scuderia
Jack Williams goes back to the early 1950s in custom cars and drag racing in the Greater Vancouver area. I believe the colour photo above is from the orginal Mission Raceway. Photo credit was to Roy McBride (maybe Ray).

mid-week clippings from the 1966 motorama
The day passes quickly so I better get this up quickly as well.
Two clippings taken from Northwest Rod, April 1966. I'd love to see more Northwest Rod.
The clippings are from the 1966 Motorama. Two local legends: Ron Farmer and Jack Williams.

Jack Williams at the Winternationals
Holy cow! The Winternationals are this weekend. Daytona Speedweek is on. I think the Thunderbird Rally is this week (and I haven't sorted out when the first one of those was, if I ever will).
This racin' history stuff is demanding!
So what to do but put up a picture of "legal" street racing. Way back when (1963?) Jack Williams set out to go to the Winternationals. But to do that he needed a test run or two. So he did it on the streets (albeit back industrial streets) of Vancouver. And the newspaper took a shot of it.
As far as I know (and I know so little) Jack got a best appearing car trophy for his trip south.
Really Jack deserves much more than this snippet. And he will get more in future posts. But this is a start. A green light if you will.
