a couple ads from 1957

One for a restaurant we all know and cherish. (At least I do.) And a drive-in long gone. (I don't even remember it very clearly.) And the other ties in with a July 29th event at Trev Deeley Motorcycles.

Victoria hill climb reunion

From Vince Howlett:

The Mount Douglas Hill Climb reunion happens this Sunday, July 8.

An article appeared in the Saanich News on Wednesday, and will appear in the Victoria News on Friday.

Also, Dave Cooper and I will be on the local CBC radio station tomorrow (Friday) at 4:30 pm.  The station is 90.5 FM, and you can also find it, either live, or as a podcast later, at the following link:

the rock and roll shows, 1957

At least two big package tours of rock and rollers came through town in 1957. Now they might have been like the jazz package tours of the same year, a bit problematic what with advertised stars cancelling and whatnot. But the lineups for the shows are amazing.

Red Robinson, 1957

Seeing how I'm stuck in 1957 right now here's a couple ads for deejay Red Robinson. He made the big move to CKWX spinning discs in the after school and late night hours.

dinky toys

A couple 1957 ads for Dinky Toys.

BCCCA, 1957

An interesting article on the BC Custom Car Association. Photos of Greater Vancouver Motorsport Pioneers.

I don't think the race considered for Stanley Park in 1958 ever happened. (I'm pretty sure it didn't.) But if I come across it I'll post something with lots of exclamation points!!!!

The May drag race at Abbotsford probably was rained out judging from some other news articles from that weekend.

and a Sunday funnie

Been a while. Good ole Tank McNamara.
