A motorcycle trials event held on Hollyburn Mountain. I was asked about when it became Cypress (mountain?, bowl?, I don't know). I need a map and a history book.

a bit late in the season, but snow mobile races

Well the ad was in March, so that isn't late for snow. But this is June and snow is hard to find at the top of Grouse now. But, snow mobile races on Grouse Mountain.

Big full page story on the demolition derbies being held at Callister Park in 1967. Written by Barry Broadfoot, who would go on to be an author of some celebrity.

some interesting names from 1962

Along with the Victoria crowd at Western Speedway a few out of towners made the ferry ride to race in 1962. For the Daffodil Cup Portland's Art Pollard finished second behind Billy Foster. And at the season's end some False Creek Speedway early-lates showed up, including Ralph Widdess, Jack Martin and Gordy Hemrich.

1963 results of the later Mt. Douglas hill climb

From what I understand the hill climbs -- both at Mt. Douglas and Little Saanich Mountain -- were held twice a year. I don't have all the news clippings so I'm guessing this is the second one for the 1963 season.

Veteran Arleigh Pilkey, from Vancouver, missed winning by two-tenths of a second.

Coming this July is a reunion for the Mt. Douglas and Little Saanich Mountain hill climbs. Here's the announcement:

Victoria Motor Sports Club proudly presents the 50 year Reunion of the Mt. Douglas and Little Saanich Mountain Hill Climbs.  Sunday, July 8, 2012.  Mt. Douglas Park, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, then drive over to Little Saanich Mountain, meet at the top, 2:30 - 4:30 pm, then drive to The Beach House.  No host cocktails and dinner to follow at The Beach House Restaurant (formerly McMorran's in Cordova Bay).

My usual wtf with blogger. We'll see how this works out. But, anywhoo, here's the result of the Maserati of Tom Meehan at Westwood in 1960.

Some pretty hot cars raced at Westwood. A Maserati, owned and driven by Tom Meehan from Seattle, brought a 1957 model up for the yearend endurance race.

 Put two items together. One a clipping of the May 29, 1960 race at Westwood with the ABCD Production winner being Dave Troffer, in a Mercedes, winning. And the other a picture identified as Dave Troffer with the checkered flag.

I believe Dave Troffer was from Seattle.

Shellburn Kart track

It was mentioned to me by John Randall that his first racing experience came at the Shellburn Kart track on Hastings at Fell in Burnaby. It, and John, got their respective starts in 1960.

Tommy Sands, Westwood

Tommy Sands, heart throb in the making, and married to Nancy Sinatra (how'd you like to call Frank your father-in-law?), paid a little visit to Westwood while in town performing at The Cave. Circa 1960.
