Westwind Speedway 1969:

Westwind Speedway ad: 1969

Don't know much about this speedway. Seems to have inherited Speedway Park's drivers, races, etc., even though there was an overlap in operating years.

Allen Brown's History of America's Speedways has it running from 1969 to 1977 but those dates aren't solid.

What little looking I've done in the microfilm comes up with some super modified races. An ad from 1969 that appeared right after the 200- lap Gold Cup CAMRA race at Speedway Park. The 50 lapper at Westwind was won by Tom Sneva (the Gold Cup was won by Norm Ellefson).

The photo is from 1975: the Gold Cup was being contested at Westwind Speedway by then. Two 100-lap main events were scheduled. Salt Lake City's Bobby Baker was the overall winner.

As with most things, more research is needed.

I was a racer at Westwind Oval in 1976 - 77 when the track closed. 1978 Saw Rob Burns ( X racer of Westwind ) re-opening the Speedway Park oval under the name of Cobra Raceway located on 137th Ave and 127th street if memory serves correctly. If you wish you may contact me at leskoracing@hotmail.com and I will try to fill in what I can. My name is Alex Leschenko and I raced a 1964 impala street stock then and still race today. Over 40 years of consecutive racing and Hold SLM championship 1991 and a Pro-Truck 2017 Championship in Saskatoon Saskatchewan Canada.
