1962, Meridian Speedway, Idaho

I've had these on deck for a while now. Better get them up and posted. Back when Racing Wheels could do in depth coverage of a two day race.

The rest tomorrow.

another Marchant rear-engined super modified

The second, more successful, rear-engined super modified built by Jim Marchant and driven by Larry Sproule. Last I heard it was being restored.

rear-engined super modifieds

Yeah, I know I've been out of circulation for a stretch. Bad posture, sore neck, couldn't sit at the computer for very long without wanting to leave. The pain is less, that's all I can say.

The Nostalgia Forum has been working over rear-engined sprint cars, why there weren't many on dirt.

I don't have an answer to that. There were a few on the pavement in the northwest. Here's one built by Jim Marchant.

Some drag racing stuff

Better keep this thing going. Got a comment concerning Jack Williams and his new museum out in Aldergrove. I posted it there but that's three year old, so I'll redo the comment here:

I was driving East down the old Trans-Canada Hwy known as Fraser Hwy in Surrey,Langley,Aldergrove and Abbotsford this Thanksgiving monday Oct.10,2011 and had just crossed the 264 street road crossing in Aldergrove when,I was hit with a glimps of pleasure from the past. i said no it can't be but I have to check it out.

You see I was positive I had just notice a sign in the powing rain that read Syndicate Scuderia Museum and through the window I thought I saw a Sling Shot Dragster.

I said to myself I got to turn around and check this out.

Next light I made a U-Turn and as I was driving back I noticed an old man driving a three wheel electric scooter like the elderly have down the sidewalk in the pouring rain with no Jacket on and I thought he can't be going far dressed like that.

I passed by and turned into the place where I could clearly see the sign Syndicate Scuderia and I remembered that name from where I and my brother inlaw had gotten Machine work done and also from Top running race cars that ran at mission Raceways with that name on the door. The shop was in Burnaby on Kingsway and I had the name of jack Williamson come to mind.

As I sat there in wonderment in my vehicle I could see a 1970 Cuda and some other cars in the show room. I thought I will be back to check this out and wondered if Jack was still alive as I started to back up and was checking my mirrors I noticed the old man in the electric 3 wheel scooter go by heading to a big gate that I had not noticed was open.

He pulled up to the door got his keys out and I drove closer and shut my Truck off and asked if he was Jack and he said he was and to come in.

Well I had this incredible feeling of joy to run into someone I had not seen for I guess over thirty years since I gave up Racing for a young Family and always intended to get back to it.

Any way Jack Williams is still going and alive at 80 years or more and I am planning to stop in for another visit and who knows maybe I might go Racing again.

Thanks Jack for taking me for a walk down through History today and a great conversation with all the knowledge you have.

I will be back.

I've heard about Jack's new spot. Will have to get out there and take a few photos.

A couple Mission reports from way back in 1965.

1969 t.v. rock show

Hosted by Fred Latremouille on CBC. I don't remember the show. Not much in the way of music, not even "philosorock".
