Marty White, Langley Speedway

I was watching a tape of the recent NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race from Vernon, BC. The honorary marshal of the race was Marty White. Marty dominated modified sportsman racing at Langley Speedway in the 1970s, then moved onto super modifieds and won the CAMRA title in 1981.

From 1973 to 1976 he grabbed 24 main event wins. Pretty good stuff especially considering he got 10 in 1976.

There was a mention in the broadcast that Marty was the 1976 Northwest Modified champion. Not sure what that meant. In 1978 there definitely was a NASCAR Northwest Modified series, and it was won by Surrey, BC's Doug Heath. There were a NASCAR sanctioned modified races at Langley in 1977 and 1978 but nothing that I've noted, as of yet, for 1976.

As we say at "racin' thru the raindrops" -- further research is needed.

Photos come from the Langley Speedway Historical Society's archives.
